GOOGLING WHITE DISPLACEMENT

"Howdy!" says the lone white veteran in this unlikely gang of seven.

November 11 is Veteran's Day in the United States of America. According to a recent study conducted by the Veteran's Administration, a full 85.4 percent of U.S. military veterans are white males. God only know how many of those testosterone-afflicted, melanin-deprived "Ice People" were killed or maimed in the various conflicts in which America has seen fit to embroil itself since its Founding.

Yet Google's commemoration (shown above) features a military which, if taken to be representational, would suggest very different demographics for the various branches of the armed forces. Here, we instead find portrayed two black men, one black woman, one white women, and a pair of elderly folks of some indiscernible ethnicity. There is fully one white guy, standing somewhat in the background, waving in a friendly manner with a jovial, slightly self-effacing expression on his face.

It's okay, though! This is not meant as a slight, clearly, to the overwhelming majority of those who have risked (or gaven) life and limb out of a solemn sense of martial duty. You really shouldn't see it that way, Whitey, nor should you wonder if you're being viewed as expendable cannon fodder, hardly worth acknowledging, in wars that America has yet to wage.

No, sir! Just go about your business, white male soldier. Don't be paranoid! There is absolutely nothing of ominous import to read between the lines here!
