In the context of present-day post-Apartheid, ANC-ruled South Africa, where life for the white minority is increasingly marred by the reality of near genocide-level violence and even the president enthusiastically dances and lustily sings of "killing the Boer," it is instructive to view this baleful turn of events in proper historical context.
We should understand that the hate-campaign against the embattled Afrikaners began much earlier, and that—geographical racial tensions aside—it did not derive from the proverbial "grass roots" of the Southern African Veldt. Instead, the Boer Nation became collective personae non grata due to the propagandistic efforts of principalities and powers on high, institutions which certainly include no less than the British Broadcasting Corporation.
For evidence, check out the sheer malice of this "Spitting Image" sketch from 1986. The implication is clear—"Those bloody Afriakaners SUCK, down to the last man, woman, and child, and (heh, heh) wouldn't it be a shame if somethin' bad (like say, a genocide) were to (hint, hint) happen to 'em???"
