Hot on the heels of the poisoning of the ex-British spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury (just miles down the road from the UK's massive chemical weapons lab at Porton Down), it seems that the Russians have been at it again, this time in Syria. At least according to the mutually amplifying mouthpieces of the Western media.
The latest news is that the Syrian government with Russian backing has supposedly just killed 70 people, mainly kids going by the pictures, in a sarin gas attack on the town of Duma, the last part of the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta enclave located near the Syrian capital. "Hundreds" have also been injured.
Somehow this story would have been more credible—not much, but a little—if it hadn't occurred so close to the final defeat of the rebels near the Syrian capital. Recently, they had agreed to be evacuated to the rebel-held Northern Idlib province, before some of them suddenly had a change of heart...and then this happened.
The proximity of the Salisbury poisoning to these events, seems all too convenient, as if somebody in the Anglo-American Deep State wanted to revive the "Russia as chemical terrorist" meme just in time for a last push to escalate Western involvement in Syria.

The main problem here is that the West just doesn't do realpolitik anymore—namely hard-headed, pragmatic geopolitics with clear and beneficial goals. Instead it does something that should be termed Feelpolitik—messy, emotionally-driven shitstorms that make a lot of money for certain actors but cause the rest of us a lot of pain and pocket.
This is because the Deep State actors know that, to steer the massive military machine of the West, they first have to get the "feels" on their side. This is why chemical weapons have become so important among all the other cheerful ways of mangling and maiming human beings.

While we often talk about various things being weaponized—autism, for example—on the other hand, weapons themselves actually have to be emotionalized in order to be deployed by the West. This is yet more evidence of the decline of the Western global system. Any empire that can only pursue its own interests or that of its ruling elites on a sea of cooked-up emotion is clearly in a death spiral.

Essentially they are pre-emotionalised weapons that things which simply rip people apart and tear off limbs aren't. In short, they have become the propaganda "weapon of choice" of the Feelpolitik Empire that the West now is.
My namesake and distant relative Captain Basil Liddell-Hart noticed the emotive qualities of gas as a weapon back in the 1920s in his classic account of WWI, The Real War:
"The chlorine gas originally used was undeniably cruel, but no worse than the frequent effect of shell or bayonet, and when it was succeeded by improved forms of gas both experience and statistics proved it the least inhumane of modern weapons. But it was novel and therefore labeled an atrocity by a world which condones abuses but detests innovations. Thus Germany incurred the moral odium which inevitably accompanies the use of a new weapon without any compensating advantage."
Of course, the difference there was that the German's actually chose to use gas and on a massive scale, whereas the evidence of the Syrians and Russians using it is extremely patchy at best. The quantities of gas or chemical agents supposedly deployed by the Russians and their allies are much more consistent with a Western Deep State operation to vilify a desired enemy and rival, than actual Russian or Syrian military expediency would warrant. In fact, considering the "emoto-political" blow-back, using little "dabs" of sarin in Syria looks positively retarded in a way that the Russians clearly aren't.
