Well done, Ted Cruz and the RNC, and thanks for helping out the man who usually needs no help, Donald J. Trump.

After he squashed his two previous main opponents – Jeb "low energy" Bush and "Little" Marco – with cutting comments that eviscerated them and framed them as failures, Trump has been having trouble delivering the coup de grace to the cunning Canadian Cuban.

Partisan politics are invariably poisonous. Indeed, boosterism breeds an ever-expansive propensity to a pernicious myopia. The more passionate one becomes in advocating for a particular candidate, the less that advocate is able to see, or care about, the truth; instead, such a one reflexively comes to believe, and just as reflexively to argue for, whichever “version” of the truth is most conducive to the likely success of one’s own candidate, and/or most presumably detrimental to the prospects of that candidate’s rivals.

But more is occluded than the fundamental ability, or willingness, to tease out fact, and conscientiously distinguish it from falsity. Another casualty of partisan punditry—whether carried out by the highest-paid, forever-flacking news television flunky or the merest envelope-licking volunteer—is a consequent inattention to subtlety. An enthusiastically compulsive partisan simply reacts to an event, rather than actually chewing it over; as a result, he frequently misses both the short-term truth of the matter and the long-term takeaway.

A case-in-point of this phenomenon is the reaction of partisans of various stripes to a recent National Enquirer piece, alleging that Presidential aspirant Ted Cruz is a serial adulterer.

SUPER TRUMPSDAY

The big day has come and gone.

In the run up to this plethora of primaries, the mainstream media pulled out all the stops to derail the Trump Train – we had pointed questions about retweeting quotes from Il Duce, attempts to link Trump to another Duke, and the ubiquitous Hitler comparisons, speaking of which, some Leftists even resorted to disease metaphors reminiscent of Nazi propaganda in their flailing attempts to do the Donald down.

But the MSM isn't what it used to be. Super Tuesday has played out rather well for Der Trumpenfuhrer, with victories in seven states and opposition to him in the Republican field still nicely split between ultimate lightweights Cruz and Rubio.

TRUMP’S IOWA LOSS ALMOST GUARANTEES HIS NEW HAMPSHIRE WIN

The result in Iowa was extremely tight. The big news is not that Cruz won, though – it’s that the caucus attracted a record evangelical turnout. It’s the result of this turnout that almost guarantees a Trump win in New Hampshire.

Tonight’s real news is that Donald Trump comfortably won the moderate vote and still picked up a great deal of the evangelical vote. Cruz, however, only achieved 9% of the moderates, and 19% of the ‘somewhat conservative’ vote.

THE TRUMP SUPREMACY

What is Donald Trump up to with his latest comment about a moratorium on Muslims? First of all, it’s just something he said on the campaign trail, a straw thrown to the wind to see which way it's blowing. It can be backed away from if necessary and it doesn’t tie him down or commit him to anything solid.

But what it does do is improve his position with certain key groups that Trump needs to win over or keep a hold off, while also emphasing once again what makes Trump such a special and different politician.

NEVER SAY "NEVER AGAIN"

It is not documented exactly when the monster Grendel left "his mossy home beneath the stagnant mere" to "drip his claws with mortal blood as moonbeams haunt the sky." But when he did, we can be sure that the results were rather tragic. Indeed, there may even be some truth in the rumours that "screams were his music, lightning his guide," and he may in fact have "raped the darkness, death by his side."

Likewise, closer to our own modern mythology, April 19th is the day on which, in 1943, the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto, realizing the unpleasant fate in store for them, steeled themselves for an uprising against their Nazi oppressors – with tragic results (but the results would have been tragic anyway, one assumes).
