Marine Le Pen's loss in the French election, while expected and predictable, has nevertheless provoked an avalanche of unseemly (but also sadly predictable) social media "sperging out" amongst nationalist-minded West-defenders opposed to globalism and mass Third World immigration.

Comments on Facebook and Twitter range from the despairingly "black-pilled" ("France is over," "France is cucked,") to the forlornly resigned ("So long France, it was nice while it lasted"), to the openly angry ("Fuck you, France!") to the humorously ironic ("France surrenders again!" "Can we have our freedom fries back?")

Twenty years ago, European culture in general, and Dutch culture specifically, was a source of great concern to the minds of many on the American Right. Holland in particular appeared to be a bellwether for a whole host of baleful trends, from secularization to the breakup of the family to full-on sexual permissiveness, which by then had extended to widespread acceptance of nearly every species of human sexual deviancy.

The acceptance of abortion “rights” had gone patently unchallenged for so long that by the late 1990s a child born in the Netherlands could even be terminated outside of the womb in many circumstances; moreover, legally-sanctioned euthanasia of supposed “life unworthy of life” had made a disturbing reappearance in the West for the first time since the surrender of Nazi Germany. Moreover, people all across the continent were starting to get fined or even thrown in jail for expressing politically incorrect opinions under so-called “hate speech” laws.

Hitler's intentions were very clear to anyone who bothered to read Mein Kampf, and the same can be said about Donald Trump and his speeches. The speech he gave a week or so ago to a joint session of Congress was the most high profile and important speech he has given yet, and comes after five weeks of frenetic activity by his administration. It is therefore well worth examining for clues as to what Trump's vision and intentions are.

The clarity of the vision was partly obscured by some distracting PC touches. But, taken in context, with other statements by the President, a fairly coherent picture emerges of what Trump thinks it is possible for him to achieve.

A few weeks ago, someone I work with invited me to attend her citizenship ceremony. I told her I would go, and I did. Another young lady I know was also receiving Canadian citizenship at this same ceremony.

I figured it might be interesting to observe a citizenship ceremony, since I’d never observed one before. It was something of a STIHIE experience for me. Of course, I knew what to expect. There were 70 new Canadian citizens: most of them were Africans, and most of the rest were Middle Eastern. And all of the speeches were filled to the brim with the usual liberal democratic dogmas about freedom, tolerance, and multiculturalism.

Throughout my years in elementary school I felt that certain teachers harboured unwarranted prejudice against me. I’d complain to my parents and my Dad’s response was fairly consistent: “What have you been up to?” My Mother’s response was somewhat more sympathetic: “Why don’t they like you? You’re so likable!” Both of their responses subtly implied that the way people treat you is a function of your own behaviour toward them. I have mentioned numerous times that the West needs to embrace this virtue of reciprocity. The virtue of tolerance that was championed by the Old Left of John Stuart Mill has been degraded by the modern left. In his essay On Liberty Mill championed a diversity of opinions (NOT a diversity of races) while placing one sole limit on free speech: using it to incite a mob.

Borders are open, but not to the people they should

Tony Hilton sent me an inter­est­ing arti­cle yesterday, taken from the last issue of The Econ­o­mist. Enti­tled “Own goal,” this piece is about America’s immi­gra­tion rules, which are “the oppo­site of what it needs,” accord­ing to the London-based weekly.

I was expect­ing a long com­plaint about the plight of poor free-market-asserting, family-values-defending Mex­i­can Ran­dian entre­pre­neurs, in the same man­ner as Robert Heineman’s appalling speech dur­ing the last H.L. Mencken Club Con­fer­ence. The pic­ture illus­trat­ing the arti­cle shows a His­panic woman hold­ing a baby who wears a “Born in the USA” t-shirt and waves a stars-and-stripes flag. Under the pic­ture, the cap­tion reads: “Get­ting ready to pay for Medicare, Med­ic­aid and the rest,” which is as coun­ter­fac­tual as you can get. I had thus good rea­sons to be wary of this article.

It is often remarked that Communism did the White race a major favour, helping to preserve it in its Eastern homelands, and that since its fall in 1989, those areas have become subjected to the same destructive tides of feminism, low-birth rates, and multiculturalism that have overwhelmed the West. At the same time we are supposed to be saddened that America has just returned an essentially Communist president. Is there not perhaps something of a paradox here?
