Fifty years ago today, Enoch Powell made perhaps the most famous speech in British politics, the "Rivers of Blood" speech, warning against the dangers of mass immigration.

A NIGEL TO REMEMBER
It was the great British politician Enoch Powell who said, "All political lives, unless they are cut off in midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure." The political life of Nigel Farage, however, has defied Powell's maxim, with the UKIP leader choosing to end his career neither in failure nor in "midstream." The tremendous victory achieved by the Brexit vote a few days ago means that he has crossed over the river and achieved the one goal he always defined his career by.
ENOCH POWELL: THE MAN AND HIS POLITICS
Sean Gabb's excellent speech on Enoch Powell, delivered on the 13th of September 2014 at the Property and Freedom Society Conference in Bodrum, Turkey. Sean Gabb is the Director of the Libertarian Alliance.
The text of the speech can be found here.
WAS ENOCH RIGHT?
The memory of Enoch Powell, a paragon of the political Right, is enjoying something of a resurgence in these ‘diverse’ and ‘vibrant’ times of ethnic plenty.
Mr Powell’s address to a 1968 Conservative party general meeting (now referred to as the Rivers of Blood speech) gave rise to the now frequent utterance and heart-felt proclamation that, “Enoch Was Right!” He was most certainly of the Right, but were Enoch’s motives right and correct, or have modern day nationalists merely been sloppy in their aggrandisement of this totemic political personality?

WINSTON THE WHITE NATIONALIST
Those who call for common sense in immigration are following an honourable tradition of conserving our homogeneity going back at least as far as Queen Elizabeth I who expelled "the Blackamors" in 1602.
In this fine British tradition, Sir Winston Churchill attempted to introduce a Bill to control immigration in 1955. He also wanted the Conservative Party to adopt the slogan "Keep England White." [1]

I would be surprised if there was a single AltRight reader that was not familiar with the sordid tale. After writing the now infamous The Talk: Nonblack Version for Taki’s Magazine. John “The Derb” Derbyshire was summarily fired from The National Review. Shortly thereafter Peter Brimelow hired him full-time at Vdare and he has now become a bit of a celebrity among we who dare speak of race. Last April, to mark the one-year anniversary of said brouhaha, Vdare released a collection of The Derb’s writings and talks.
