White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is a man of big ideas and his next big one is to combat the liberal bias of internet companies like Facebook and Google by treating them as public utilities and monopolies. This would mean imposing tighter regulations on them, making it harder for them to behave in the partisan left-leaning way that they have in the past.

Bannon's intentions emerged after the tech-focused on-line mag The Intercept reported on the story, citing three anonymous sources that have reportedly discussed the issue with Bannon.

The internet has been a truly liberating phenomenon for many people, not least the "thought criminals" and "heretics" of the Alt-Right. The freedom of expression that it has fostered has also been hard for the old mainstream media companies, which have struggled to maintain profitability, with some of them having to transform themselves into click bait sites, but extremely tame ones in case they offend their shrinking pool of advertisers.

In addition to the old, dying media, there are others who would dearly love to re-close what they see as the "Pandora's box" of free expression and the market place of ideas that the internet has birthed. These include Western governments, the establishment, the Deep State, and the SPLC, in fact all those who were shaken by Donald Trump's meme-powered march to the White House. But how to do it?

Here's a little game my friend showed me. Go to Google.com type in "American inventors," notice anything unusual? Look at the horizontal row of pictures.

There you have it folk, America is not just the land of contemporary black geniuses like Kayne, Oprah and Colin Kaepernick. It is also the land of historic black inventor and innovator geniuses like George Washington Carver, the guy who brought you peanut butter, and Madam C.J. Walker who put together a company to sell blacks beauty products (Afro Sheen?) Or Garrett Morgan who worked on a chemical for hair-straightening (did he work with Walker?).

A recent Google "doodle" featured an obscure Japanese woman called Yuri Kochiyama, who – the image implied – was in some way connected to the overused abstract noun "EQUALITY."

This was deliciously ironic, as I then used that same company, Google, which has an almost monopolistic dominance of internet searches, to link to Wikipedia, a crowd-sourced entity that has a similarly dominant position with regard to online reference, to find out more. So much for "equality"!

HOW GOOGLE DESTROYED THE INTERNET

The internet was created to resolve a simple problem: in communications networks, any central node through which all messages passed was vulnerable to attack or takeover. To counter this, engineers designed a network where any node would pass messages to other nodes, routing around any damage.

Then came commerce and the democratization of the internet.

Under this model, frightened sheep flock to certain central sites that provide the services they need, and avoid everything else, lest it be politically incorrect or upsetting.

Back in February, around the time of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, I wrote an article Let the Internet Clone Wars Begin.

The point of the article was that America, either as a conscious entity or as an unfocused manifestation of its evil essence, exerts an undue amount of its power through its internet hegemony; and that any nation, civilization, or ideology determined to stand up to this, needs to construct its own alternative systems.

Back in the dark old days of the Cold War, when the Soviet Union was challenging America's unearned global supremacy, there was nothing that the Soviets wouldn't do to win. As an admittedly more backward country, this involved copying and, in fact, stealing a lot of ideas from the West. A wide range of Soviet products were simply clones of Western ones.

The Makarov 9mm Pistol was a rip-off of the German Walther 9mm Ultra, the Soviet Gaz Mini Truck was a Ford AA truck without the Ford logo, the Tupolev TU-4 bomber was simply a steal of the Boeing B-29, and the Vyatka moped, was an all too humble tribute to the mighty Vespa. The list is endless.
