REVIEW: FAUSTIAN MAN IN A MULTICULTURAL AGE

Faustian Man in a Multicultural Age
By Ricardo Duchesne

I had the chance to meet Professor Ricardo Duchesne a few years ago, before he launched the Council of Euro-Canadians blog. Thanks to his professorial approach, he made me grasp the depth of Antonio Gramsci's thoughts and how we should use his approach if we were to have success in reversing the current dominant culture. I am not ashamed to say that this meeting was one of the most influential ones in my own intellectual development. It is why I was particularly thrilled to learn that he had decided to pen a new book, his first one since he started being involved in the Canadian Alternative Right, if we can use that term. His book Faustian Man in a Multicultural Age met my expectations.

THE ANTI-CIVILIZATION OF THE WEST

First published in Radix: The Great Erasure in 2012.

In his book The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of the New World Order (1996) Samuel P. Huntington put forward the thesis, popular with large sections of the 'Right,' that the post-Cold-War world would be shaped by its major civilizations and their interactions.

For some it was the gently coded recognition of race that appealed, for others it was the stigmatization of Islam as a rather unpleasant civilization that rang true, so that the book became, for better or worse, a landmark of political science. This makes it an ideal starting point for considering the topic of civilizations in general and the problematic nature of the West in particular.

TEN THINGS THAT SHOW YOU THE COLLAPSE HAS ALREADY HAPPENED

Western Civilization was a good thing. Starting a thousand years ago, it fell into decline, but, as is the nature of decline, this was not an absolute condition but a gradual one, overlapping some of the greatest moments of Western Civilization. Thus it seemed to be both rising and falling at the same time, but its ultimate direction was toward failure.

Between 1789 and 1968 the West fully collapsed, and all of us born after those times have inherited a vast disaster which we alternately try to save and escape from. This schizophrenic state cannot last; we must choose one, and the sensible answer is to stand and fight, saving what is good and throwing out the rest.

That requires however that we give up false allegiances. Our only allegiance can be to Western Civilization and the genetic stock of Western Europeans that produces it. Everything else is an intermediate, a symbol standing for those great things, and by misdirecting us from the reality to the symbol, these become parasites.

THE ADVENT OF MORAL NATIONALISM

Morality can arise in two ways. It can either develop organically through custom, tradition, and culture, or it can be manufactured through laws, the mass media, or revolution. The prevailing globalist liberal moral system that exists in the Western world today belongs to the latter category, but in many ways, it is also more than that.

Aside from being a manufactured moral system, Western Morality, in its current formulation, aspires to be "universal" in nature, and it is this feature which makes it unique as a moral system. The universality of Western Morality is why anti-racism and multiculturalism has taken root in the Western World, and why so many Western countries are mentally incapable of protecting their borders against mass immigration. This is because a universal morality prevents people from thinking in terms of what is good or bad for their group.

THE CASE FOR RACIAL REARMAMENT

Anti-Racism is the unilateral nuclear disarmament of today

by Colin Liddell

In recent months, thanks to the migrant crisis, it has become increasingly apparent that Racism is not some sort of elemental and supreme evil, as the Left would have us believe, but rather a defence system that encompasses many options from the mild to the extreme.

Those countries that wisely deploy Racism – from Japan with its almost zero intake of refugees to Switzerland where voters recently strengthened the power of the anti-immigrant Swiss People's Party – stand a better chance of preserving their ethnic and racial characters (and cultures), while those that don’t are doomed to be colonized, genocided, or divided in racial conflict, as their earlier ethnomasochism inevitably switches to defensive racism.

MOTHER TERESA: SAINT OF THE DARK NIGHT

The West could well be said to be experiencing its own collective "dark night of the soul" right now. The reasons for this are many, varied, and multifaceted, but at its core, the problem is a spiritual one. We have lost our moorings, and as such, have veered toward ruination. A faithless culture has no particular reason to struggle, grow, or thrive; it lacks any especial cause to value its own continuance.

This is not to say that all aspects of the West's current malaise are attributable to its current state of secularism, nor to claim that only believers can make positive contributions to the construction of a healthy and robust culture. The role of faith, however, can scarcely be ignored, as it offers a sort of transcendentally-grounded bulwark against despair, which in turn tends to arrest the advance of nihilism, thus holding decline at bay. With faith's erosion, however, this bulwark is broken, and all kinds of undesirable elements are free to surge in.

REVENGE OF THE REST AGAINST THE WEST

White man go back to Europe...

Having ascended to the height of the world for some brief thousands of years (with a long, muddling interlude in the middle), the West finds itself on the back foot against its more numerous competitors. None of this is especially concealed: the only confusing part about it is that a large portion of the people who might otherwise be charged with perpetuating the civilization have arrayed themselves against it, often barely understanding, themselves, what it is that they are tearing down.

THE FUTURE OF THE WEST: WHITE REVOLUTION, BRAZILIFICATION, OR ARGENTINIZATION?

A wise man – presumably one sitting on a rock in a lotus position – once said, "Nothing is as difficult to predict as the future."

Indeed, it is usually pointless to attempt it, except at the highest "macro" level, where we can confidently say sweeping things like "The Earth will eventually be swallowed by the Sun," "Empires collapse," or "Democracy is unworkable in the (not so) long term."

But despite the poor returns in terms of marketable facts, predicting the future is still worth attempting because it helps develop a certain kind of engaged consciousness that might one day manifest as willed control of our destiny, rather than passive acquiescence – the difference between being truly human and being an animal.

One of the things that distinguishes the alternative right from all other political and ideological movements is our readiness to contemplate this ever unreliable future. This is one of the reasons why we are the most humanistic of ideologies.

DON'T GO WITH THE FLOW

The Oriental Mysticism at the Heart of our Passivity

"If you describe yourself as 'spiritual but not religious' you might be a Taoist."
"Here, I would like to make myself absolutely clear: I do not think that the present vague spiritualism, the focus on the openness to Otherness and its unconditional Call, this mode in which Judaism has become almost the hegemonic ethico-spiritual attitude of today’s intellectuals, is in itself the ‘natural’ form of what one can designate, in traditional terms, as Jewish spirituality." – Slavoj Zizek
"Saving one's soul may be of interest in a system, but in ignorance of that system... your Xtian examination degenerates into mere cerebral onanism." – Ezra Pound
"All knowledge rests either on authority or reason but that whatever is deduced by reason depends ultimately on a premise derived from authority." – Charles Peirce
When you ask ordinary people about the economy, multiculturalism, or about immigration, they often give vague answers. Rather than identifying a specific historical trajectory that won a military and ideological victory, and is continuously pushed by NGOs, think-tanks, capitalist cabals, ivory tower academics, the mainstream media, and a certain ethnic group, they instead allude to how it is all just the “natural course of events.”

WESTERN ISOLATIONISM

Not too long ago, Stratfor released one their usual forecasts on long term trends and possible events affecting the entire world. With regards to Europe, this is what they have to say:
“The diversity of systems and demographics that is Europe will put the European Union's institutions under severe strain. We suspect the institutions will survive. We doubt that they will work very effectively. The main political tendency will be away from multinational solutions to a greater nationalism driven by divergent and diverging economic, social and cultural forces. The elites that have crafted the European Union will find themselves under increasing pressure from the broader population. The tension between economic interests and cultural stability will define Europe. Consequently, inter-European relations will be increasingly unpredictable and unstable.”
And then for the United States:
“The United States will continue to be the major economic, political and military power in the world but will be less engaged than in the past. Its low rate of exports, its increasing energy self-reliance and its experiences over the last decade will cause it to be increasingly cautious about economic and military involvement in the world. It has learned what happens to heavy exporters when customers cannot or will not buy their products. It has learned the limits of power in trying to pacify hostile countries. It has learned that North America is an arena in which it can prosper with selective engagements elsewhere. It will face major strategic threats with proportional power, but it will not serve the role of first responder as it has in recent years.”
Conclusions, like these, are certainly interesting, and may even be greeted with joy and enthusiasm by nationalists and dissidents from different races and backgrounds. However, it is important to remember that such predictions are also often associated with notions of Western decline by ordinary people. An increasingly isolationist Western World is usually interpreted as one that is stagnating or going downhill.

THE FAILURE OF PUTIN

Putin – Dr. Evil or Mini-Me?

Things either have logical coherence or they don’t. If they do, then there is a high chance that every component element is sound and true, each validated by the other. If they don’t have logical coherence, then obviously something is false and wrong, and we can begin the search for the flawed or broken element.

For a long time, those on the alternative right have tried to view Putin as some kind of saviour, as a force for traditionalism and a much-needed opponent to a globalist West run amok. But who is there among us who has not had his doubts? We all have, and those who haven’t can be dismissed as idiots or unthinking Slavophiles.

WHY FEMINISM FAILS IN THE THIRD WORLD

by Dota

The brutal rape that occurred in Delhi two years ago was followed by unprecedented national outrage and demands for legislature reform. They were also followed by a spike in sexual assaults including the shocking rape of 2 peasants girls whose corpses were hung on trees. India is but one country in the global tapestry we know as the third world. Why does the third world reject feminism? I will for the sake of clarity attempt to answer the question by using India as a case study.

AS SOCIAL TRUST WANES, WE WEAKEN

by Henry Dampier

The West is in a crisis surrounding a general collapse in social trust. Rather than focusing too much on the macro political situation, I would rather explore the consequences of this at the personal level.

Unlike when my grandfathers were working, or when my father worked, it is common for employees to distrust their bosses and their co-workers. There is no sense that the company exists for the long term benefits of its stake-holders. At a far lower level of technology and gross profitability, employees even at the lower level could expect to advance their careers within the same corporation for their entire lives. My grandfather was not an executive — he was a simple accountant at General Electric — but his retirement package ultimately made him a multimillionaire. He lived modestly for most of his life, did not work long hours, and raised two children.

A PRAYER FOR WAR

It's often said that war brings out the best and worst in people. But just supposing there's more worst than best, what can we expect to happen?

Now, as the Crimean crisis moves through its second week, there is tough talk aplenty and with the talk come the gestures – troops moved around like pieces on a Risk board, ships sailing nearer.

Can any of this mean anything?

IT'S THE LIBERALISM, STUPID

The modern West is like a person whose brain lobes have been severed. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, and the two have different personalities. The right hand tries for health, but for every move it makes, the left hand moves more quickly to destroy.

SUICIDE OF THE WEST

Dennis Mangan recently discussed a new study which claims that Middle Eastern suicide bombers are more sad sacks than wild-eyed fanatics, driven towards their explosive final act not by Allah-ardor but simple world-weariness and clinical depression.
