A deficiency of history means that Americans will continue to look to other lands and eras for political inspiration, including the unfortunate time and place of early 20th century Germany. Due to its inauthenticity, such LARPyism is almost always doomed to failure. There are few better examples of this than Jeff Schoep and the movement that he once led, the NSM, an American incarnation of Germany's Nazis.
