It took the White race to finally eradicate the age-old institution of slavery from the World. Yes, we may have participated in it to some degree, and, yes, slavery may even have been superior—or at least more humane—than several other systems of labour exploitation that dominated the historical masses of the world. But there was always a strong element of individual degradation that sat uneasily with the White soul, so it fell to our great race to be the one to stamp it out.
Our big mistake, however, was the follow-up. Instead of closing the circle and returning the liberated slaves to their rightful homelands, we allowed them to stay in America, and then got into a cycle of feeling guilty about the inevitable inequality that resulted. This led to ever more extreme reforms and innovations to "even things out." Finally this process led us to put one relatively young, objectively unqualified Black man in the White House by the unlikely name of Barack Hussein Obama.
It is one of history's greatest ironies, that it was this President—a product of White revulsion against slavery—who then spent the first term of his Presidency bringing it back into existence on a considerable scale.
As we now see Obama striving to eke out his Post-Presidential niche with speeches attacking Trump, let that be the legacy or eternal meme to which he is forever chained.
I am not pointing here to any supposed "slavery" in America, although some might cite the "debt slavery" caused by a bloated higher education system and pay-day loans or the "wage slavery" of illegal migrants working for peanuts or as prostitutes, both aspects of modern America that he helped foster. In my view neither of these are real forms of slavery.
What I am referring to here is the literal form of slavery—with whips, chains, and utter hopelessness—which Obama helped to reestablish in countries like Libya. Yes, the President who rode to victory on the word "HOPE" did much to spread its opposite in some parts of the World!
Along with his chief allies, Sarkozy of France and Cameron of England, Obama turned Libya from a relatively well-run, secular Arab state with an eccentric leader into an actual revival of a literal slave society, with masters, whips, chains, auction blocks, and summary executions.
Without Obama's input, the other allies could not have acted, and without that there would have been no color revolution in the name of the so-called "Arab Spring," followed by the senseless bombing of the country into anarchy, neo-feudalism, and actual slavery.
Now, thanks to Obama, slaves—mainly Black men like Obama's own father ("Dreams of My Father" indeed!)—are sold in "liberated" Libya for a few hundred dollars, regularly beaten, forced to do backbreaking labour, and killed at the whim of their masters.
But Libya was not the full extent of Obama's reintroduction of slavery. There was also Syria and Iraq.
Through his administration's support—both direct and indirect—for ISIS, the ancient slave markets of the Levant, that had been closed for a century or more, reopened, this time with young Yazidi women on offer on the auction blocks of Raqqa and Mosul, before those cities were recaptured by anti-ISIS forces in the first year of Trump's Presidency. One estimate said that up to 7,000 Yazidis—overwhelmingly women—had been enslaved.
Of course, it could be argued that something quite similar could have happened if the President had been White at the time, but the funny thing is that it didn't happen under either of the Bushes or under even under Bill Clinton.
While also interfering in the delicate affairs of other nations, none of those White Presidents succeeded much in facilitating the return of slavery as a significant global institution. Nor has Trump.
I'm not saying that a White President operating in exactly the same way that Obama did would have produced different results—even though one characteristic of White leaders compared to Black ones appears to be that they follow through with their projects a lot more rigorously—but it is still incredibly telling that under Obama there was a massive upsurge of slavery.
How ironic that the ultimate fruit of the great anti-slavery impulse of our civilisation—an actual Black President in the White House—should have facilitated this! What this reveals is that in whatever dark and twisted ways the cogs and levers of history work, the gods of the subject clearly love irony and plenty of it.
