The moving of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the still contested city of Jerusalem last year was a sign of things to come. Now, with its latest announcement, Trump's administration appears to have gone "full Zionist."
As reported by the Guardian:
What's going on here is quite simple. Trump is one year away from a Presidential election and wants to fight that with plenty of cash (not his own—he's Scottish!) so he's got to please his big donors like Sheldon Adelson, a fanatical supporter of Israel and Netanyahu. He's also got to keep the evangelical Christcuck demographic energised. This might help a little.
But maybe, just maybe, this is yet another example of 4D chess (sorry, dead meme) and Trump's desire to disengage from the Middle Eastern quagmire.
That's what it kinda, sorta sounds like to me:
Why should the US have to be the guy in the middle trying to get the scrappy kids to shake hands, kiss, and make up? Why does Uncle Sam have to fill the awkward and thankless role of being the globally-appointed arbiter of the mess that is the Middle East? Why should it have to reflect the unworkable global consensus on Israel/Palestine, which is the cobbled-together and unworkable compromise notion that "yeh, like, y'know, it would be great if the Palestinians could have a nice little state too, next to Israel, but don't show me any maps..."
"America Firstism" comes in many forms and maybe this is one of them.

As reported by the Guardian:
The US has declared that Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land are not necessarily illegal, in a dramatic break with decades of international law, US policy and the established position of most US allies.Of course a lot of people are pissed at this. Leftists who hate White people are pissed, Alt-Righters who hate Jews are pissed, Europeans who want to suck up to Islam are pissed, and, of course, the Palestinians living under Israeli occupation or even partial occupation (Gaza) are the most pissed. In fact the Palestinians are so pissed that everyone is expecting terrorist attacks:
“Calling the establishment of civilian settlements inconsistent with international law has not advanced the cause of peace,” said Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state. “The hard truth is that there will never be a judicial resolution to the conflict, and arguments about who is right and who is wrong as a matter of international law will not bring peace."
The US embassy in Jerusalem, however, appeared to be bracing for a hostile reaction from Palestinians, issuing a warning against travel to Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. But should non-Left-wing Jews be happy about this?

[Pompeo] said the legality of individual settlements should be decided by the Israeli courts, and claimed that the US declaration would not prejudice an ultimate comprehensive settlement between Israelis and Palestinians. Pompeo even suggested the move would “provide the very space for Israelis and Palestinians to come together to find a political solution”.This is called "passing the buck," or—a new term—"down-sourcing."
